ProMedica guide – hospital and doctor visits
In this article, we will explain how to access ProMedica with your Sidecar Health coverage and answer frequently asked questions about ProMedica.
The information in this article pertains to non-emergency services rendered at ProMedica. If you have an emergency and want to go to a ProMedica hospital for emergency care, go get care right away. You’re covered and won’t be responsible for emergency room charges over your deductible. Learn more about your coverage here.
ProMedica services and costs:
ProMedica is a health system located in northwest Ohio with 11 hospitals and a physician group with more than 800 physicians across numerous specialties and locations. Sidecar Health has a direct payment agreement with ProMedica that allows Sidecar Health members residing in northwest Ohio to access discounted healthcare services through ProMedica that are at or below the Benefit Amount (excluding some lab and imaging services).
Accessing ProMedica services:
As a Sidecar Health member, you are in the driver’s seat of your own healthcare decisions. With your Sidecar Health coverage, you can see any doctor including those at ProMedica, but it is up to you to shop smartly for the provider that best fits your needs.
Accessing a ProMedica provider at a non-hospital location (e.g., imaging centers, primary care office, ambulatory surgery center) and a ProMedica hospital:

- Call your ProMedica location directly to schedule care with your provider or hospital of choice. Tell your provider you have Sidecar Health and make sure to present your Digital Member ID Card and upload it into your MyChart.
- Get care at your scheduled location on the day of your appointment. You should not be required to pay at this time.
- Sidecar Health will handle payment directly with ProMedica. You do not have to swipe your Sidecar Health VISA benefit card.
- Sidecar Health will create an expense in your account.
- If you have a deductible, you will be notified of your balance once we have closed the claim.

How much does ProMedica charge for healthcare services?
ProMedica has a direct payment agreement with Sidecar Health that gives members access to discounted pricing. You can estimate your ProMedica prices easily through the Sidecar Health member portal to understand what you may owe towards your deductible.
Note that imaging and laboratory services performed at a ProMedica location are billed by an independent organization that is not owned by ProMedica. For imaging and laboratory services, you may owe additional costs if the charges are above your Benefit Amount.
What should I say when they ask about insurance?
Let your ProMedica provider know you have Sidecar Health by saying, “Yes, I do have insurance through Sidecar Health. Here is a copy of my digital Member ID card.” You should then share the information found on your Digital Member ID Card.
If the representative is unfamiliar with our process, share your Member ID number from your Digital Member ID card in the member portal and let them know to bill Sidecar Health directly, or have them contact Sidecar Health Provider Services at 866-441-9993.
Why did ProMedica send me a bill?
If ProMedica sends you a bill, contact their customer service team at 800-477-4035 and tell them to bill Sidecar Health directly. Let ProMedica know your Member ID number from your Digital Member ID Card in the member portal.
